new look otw!

With September and fall on its way, I've been thinking about changing my blog theme. While I love my blue theme, it doesn't feel like me as much because its not summer anymore. So a new design is on the way!

Here's a sneak peak of the vibes I'll be going for.

the guy you make up in your head and its just you

Saw a video today of like "the guy you came up with in your head" and it was like a mood board. He was nerdy but athletic, read books, liked music, had dimples and muscles. Basically he was complex and attractive and deep. Watching this I had the thought that was basically this is me. Not saying I'm amazing but saying that what I want for myself in a boyfriend is someone like me.

We want men to be smart, funny, emotionally intelligent, understanding, athletic, motivated, well read, and all these things because that's what we are. I have multiple hobbies and interests. I go to the gym 4 days a week. I can have complex conversations about politics, emotions, movies, books, paradoxes, anything. I have a job. I hang out with my friends, who are also just as complex. I can be completely alone and happy. I even blog! And I'm in school! These are all traits that I look for in a man (not that I'm actively looking right now) yet they seem so hard to find. There's this cultural permission for men to go deep on one thing (the gym bro, the gamer, the workaholic, the film snob) while women are often socialized to be well-rounded out of necessity. You have to be emotionally intelligent and career-driven and fit and interesting and self-sufficient. It just seems that in my experience, men are far more shallow than women. They dedicate themselves to one thing and let it control them. While women are quite literally everything at once. I'm so glad no one sees these cause then I'd have a bunch of men angry at me for saying this.

Snippet from "In Summation" by Taylor Swift which this reminded me of.

little update

Hey girls! Haven't posted on here in a while so I thought I'd give a little update. I dyed my hair pink with temporary dye and absolutely love it! Unfortunately it faded really fast, but I'm thinking of doing it again. Let me know what you think I should do. Also, I am starting college soon which is exciting but also oh so stressful. No one knows what they are talking about when I ask for help and I just get redirected to different departments constantly. Also my advisor is USELESS! Also why do I have to pay $3 to send my transcripts to my school? What's the point? What do they need $3 for? This whole process is so ridiculous. Also college is so expensive and applying for scholarships and aid is such a pain in the ass. That's basically what's going on with me besides the norm. Hope you enjoyed or can relate.

CINEMA IS SO BACK!!!

Hi friends, this weekend I was lucky enough to go to the movies twice!! I saw The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I loved them both.

The Odyssey

I saw The Odyssey this past Friday with Lynnie Bop.  It was so insanely well made and portrayed the story excellently, in my opinion. I'm not an expert on The Odyssey, but I knew enough to be familiar with a majority of the concepts and events. Most of my knowledge prior to watching the film was from Percy Jackson, which will be controversial to some, but idc! I was also lucky enough to have a friend who's a Latin expert give us a rundown of everything we needed to know before watching, so shout-out to Lydia! I cannot find the words to express how perfect and amazing this was to me. All of the performances by the stacked cast were done so well that I didn't have the usual experience of thinking, "Hey, that's Robert Pattinson," instead of seeing Antinous; I only saw their characters. Also Agamemnon was so so cool and had so much aura the whole film, and I really felt the need to mention it. Overall, I give the film a 10/10.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

I have always been a massive Spider-Man fan since I was little. He has always been my favorite superhero. This was such an amazing movie and I loved it so much. It dealt with the aftermath of No Way Home so well. Additionally, it really felt like a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, like the problems weren't too large for him to handle and it wasn't like why is this just his problem where are the other heroes like some Marvel films can be. It gave me the same hope for the world that Superman 2025 did. It was also so nice to see the influence peter 2 and 3 had on this Peter Parker, it could be seen in how he swung and his humor in fights and made him more similar to the comics imo. I also found out that the made an effort to remake some iconic comic covers in the film and I find that so fun and cool. The soundtrack was so amazing, per usual. I have added so many songs from every Spider-Man movie I've seen and this one was no different. Another 10/10 movie.

Basically the cinema is so back and there's a good chance I'll be back to watch both of these on the big screen again. I'm so so happy. If you'd like to see my reviews for both, you can find my letterboxd here: https://letterboxd.com/mrs_summer455/
